Shoptalk: Apotheosis II

In my last post about Apotheosis, I covered what happens to a new-born God's Favored Abilities and Associated Powers. That's all well and good, but other things happen when you achieve Godhood. Awesome, inspiring things that broaden the scope of your powers and bootstrap you up to divinity.

Well, at least that's what should happen. So, we'll first cover what the RAW has happen, then cover what I think should be the real deal. Sound good? Great! Let's go.

Actually, you know what? I changed my mind. We're not going to cover what the RAW has happen, you can do that yourself. Reference p.36 of Scion: God, if you wish. The Apotheosis process as outlined there is complex and, frankly, shitty. So I'm not gunna waste time copying it and distilling it down to its lame essence.

The New Truth of the Matter

  • Godly Superiority – To represent that even the weakest of Gods are figures of immense power, a newly ascended Scion receives the first dot in any Epic Attribute they do not currently have, for free. This bonus does not add to Epic Attributes the Scion already possessed.
  • Divine Boost – The new God receives 10 Attribute Dots to distribute as he wishes among his Mundane Attributes.
  • Cosmic Power – The new God receives 10 points which can be used to increase Epic Attributes or buy new Boons. Each Attribute Dot or Boon costs 1 of these points, no matter the rank.
  • Blessings of Welcome – A Pantheon will typically greet a new God with great honor and ceremony, bestowing upon them many gifts. The Scion gets 5 points to upgrade existing Birthrights or purchase new ones, including the Sanctum Birthright.
  • Ichor Surplus – New Gods get 15 bonus points to spend as they wish.
  • Ascendance Upgrade – As a Scion becomes a God, his power spills over into his tools and followers. New Gods receive 5 points to spend on upgrading existing Birthrights. These points cannot be used to buy new Birthrights.
  • Avatar All Around – All Gods have the ability to create Avatar bodies which they can place their consciousness into while their true form remains in their Sanctum. Doing so costs 5 points of Legend and takes a Misc. Action. The Avatar body can have any Legend rating, so long as it is greater than 0 and less than 9. Any powers the Avatar's Legend rating cannot support are unavailable to the God while in his Avatar form. If an Avatar is killed, the God suffers 1 unsoakable Aggravated damage and snaps back into his true body.
And of course, as covered previously, the new God will lose all former Favored Abilities and Associated Powers. Instead they gain their two highest-rated powers as Associations and treat any Abilities for which they have an Ultimate Expression as Favored.
