Character Spotlight: Andrei

Who Is Andrei?

One of the Grey Wolf's offspring. Andrei looks like a particularly huge Caucasian Shepherd, standing nearly five feet tall at the shoulder and weighing over three hundred pounds. He lived at Abnormal Investigations and spent most of his time sleeping under Emma's desk. Now that Igor is dead and Emma has left the city, he has dropped off the map. He can still be found, but whatever location he calls home is as yet unknown.

What Role Does He Play?

Andrei enjoys two things: eating and making deals. Unsurprisingly, he often combines the two activities. The price for his assistance or knowledge is almost always food of some manner. He prefers the meat of Legendary beings. Failing that, he will accept living humans.

What Are His Stories?

When he first met Johnny, Andrei found the young Dia's fear of dogs amusing. He offered Johnny a bargain: in exchange for allowing Andrei to eat one of his arms, Johnny would get one of Andrei's teeth. The teeth of a Wolf-Hound can chew through almost anything and deliver wounds so terrible that only magic can heal them. Johnny agreed to the deal and lost his left arm.

Since then, Andrei has made other bargains with the Band. Boris has had particularly bad experiences with Andrei's deals. The hound helped Boris defeat a demon-priest in exchange for Boris finding him a human to eat. Boris had his ghostly KGB agents find him a murderer, but at the last minute he had a change of heart and refused to let Andrei eat the man. Chernobog became involved, since Boris had sworn to uphold the terms of his bargain under his father's name. When Boris refused to make good, Chernobog took matters into his own hands. Five of the KGB agents were returned to life and promised to Andrei as payment for Boris' debt. Boris got in the middle of that deal as well. The Russian Scion has finally reached an agreement with Andrei to slay the Loch Ness Monster to make up for all his broken promises.

Johnny, too, has reached a recent agreement with Andrei. In exchange for the Wolf-Hound's help killing Bran the Huntsman, Andrei gets to not only eat Bran, but he gets to eat Johnny's right leg three times and one other part of Johnny. The dog has already had his one other part, eating a key portion of Johnny's Legend (located between his legs).

Where Is He Headed?

Andrei is at a complicated point in his life. His most recent Scion ally (Igor) is dead. Andrei himself killed Igor in a surprised attack, though at the time the dog was under the control of Gytrash, a Black Hound. The Band that's moved into his territory is wary of him at best and downright antagonistic (especially that stupid Russian stealing his meals) at worst. The pup he gave to the Irishman as a joke has grown up and taken sides firmly against him.

Andrei is very alone right now. Will he reach out to the Band and attempt to become their friend? Will he end up moving away from Atlanta entirely, to start a new chapter in his life? He hasn't decided yet. Of course, Andrei might decide that he could fix his problems by getting rid of the Band in his territory. Given the population of stray dogs in Atlanta, how long would it take Andrei to sire a whole pack of Wolf-Hounds? Even if he didn't plan for his children to turn on the Scions, would all of them turn out to be as friendly as Artan?
