Character Spotlight: Randall Days

Who Is He?

Randall Days is the Scion of Kebauet, one of the youngest Pesedjet around. He's a prophet, a craftsman and he's in a little bit of a sticky situation, socially.

How Did He Join?

Randall joined the Band just prior to Garreth's trial for Titan Conspiracy. Previously, he was working as a weapon-smith and prophet in Dublin; that's where he ran into (and slept with) Johnny Easter. Johnny urged Randall to join the Band and relocate to Atlanta.

What Role Does He Play?

Since joining the Band, Randall has become the resident Brain. He studies, catalogues and maintains the Relics and Trophies the Band has obtained. He's the only Prophet in the Band. As the Brain, he's the go-to guy for information on strange things. When his Bandmates need help with mysterious, plant-eating dragon-dogs or gifts from ancient Celtic Gods, they ask Randall.

Despite his lack of empathy and shaky grip on human emotions, Randall is typically one of the first Band-members that his friends turn to when they need someone to talk with. Maybe he's just a good sounding board, or maybe his strange, detached perspective offers unexpected clarity. Who knows?

What Are His Stories?

Randall currently has one major sub-plot: his impending marriage. A few weeks ago, his mother (Kebauet) informed him that the Dodekatheon and the Pesedjet were entering negotiations to affirm their alliance via arranged marriage and that his Great-Grand-Uncle Setesh had offered him as the 'bride'.

Some background to explain this mess. Setesh (Set) is married to his sister, Nephthys, while his hated brother Osiris is married to their (prettier) sister Isis. Nephthys once cheated on Setesh with Osiris and their adultery produced Anubis, who is the father of Kebauet. This means that the entire family line of Anubis is the product of Setesh's wife cheating on him and, as a result, he hates them.
Being publicly recognized as the submissive partner in a male-male sexual relationship is one of the most humiliating things possible for an Ancient Egyptian male. By offering Randall up as the 'bride' of a male Theos, Setesh is directing a huge insult at Randall, his mother and Anubis. The realization that he was going to end up humiliated and disgraced in front of his entire Pantheon nearly drove Randall to depression (maybe worse), but he cheered when his husband-to-be contacted him.

Dominic Zabat, a Scion of Ares, lives in the Congo and works as a doctor on occasion. He also spends time fighting evil pygmies, helping out a local Band of Heroes and trying to cure diseases. A master of the Health Purview, Dominic uses the very diseases he fights against in mortal populations to decimate Titanspawn camps and monster packs. Dominic is twice Randall's age and much more imposing, physically and socially. Despite their differences, the two hit it off.

Randall's learning to take his own opinions and thoughts seriously, thanks to Dominic putting a great deal of weight on Randall's decisions and desires. The two are quite enamored of each other, almost definitely in love and Dominic is willing to do whatever he can to help Randall through the social consequences of their marriage.

As minor sub-plots, Randall is currently raising a Merfolk Egg to see what happens when it hatches. He hopes that he can domesticate the merfolk and teach it morals. Since it's currently just an egg, no progress on that front. He also wants to explore all the Underworlds, but hasn't yet managed to visit any of them. He's eager to take a trip to Duat and the others, though with their current status as the front lines of the battle against Mortis, doing so is very, very dangerous.

Where Is He Headed?

Randall's future is a bit of a mystery. His relationship with Dominic is certainly leading him into a more active role in his own destiny. His pet projects such as merfolk domestication and Underworld exploration will carry hazards and benefits of their own, once he gets started on them.

The real challenge facing Randall is learning to step up and challenge the World around him when he has to. He is dedicated to Harmony and he's going to find himself in situations where the balance of the universe needs him to set it right, something he won't always be able to do from behind his friends.
